Francis “Cap” Capitano, 71, formerly of Columbus Avenue, Pittston, passed away Thursday, August 1, 2019 in Penn Hospice at Rittenhouse, Philadelphia.
Born in Pittston on May 19, 1948, he was the son of the late Carmen and Carmella Ritti Capitano.
He was a graduate of Pittston High School, Class of 1966 and received an associate’s degree from Luzerne County Community College. He served in the US Navy.
Cap was president of Cap's Auto Sales, Inc., a business started by his father in 1952. The dealership underwent multiple expansions, the first in 1972 with a relocation to West Pittston and again in 1983 with the purchase of a larger property in Wyoming, PA. The Wyoming location grew to a full service pre-owned dealership/repair/clean-up shop in 1993 and operated successfully until 2006. Today, the dealership, owned by Cap's son, Carmen, of whom he was extremely proud, operates as Global Auto Mart in Pittston Township.
Surviving are his son Carmen Capitano and his wife Kimberly, Jenkins Township; grandchildren, Santino and Olivia; brother, John Capitano and his wife Mary, Old Forge; companion, Barbara Cliff, West Pittston; nieces, Carmella Scott and Maria Capitano.
Friends may call Friday, August 9, 2019 from 5pm-8pm at Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, 251 William Street, Pittston. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
