Margaret A. (Peggy) Gallagher


Margaret A. (Peggy) Gallagher, 97, of Jenkins Township, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2016 in Mercy Center, Dallas.

A life-long resident of Inkerman, she was born June 16, 1919, a daughter of the late Martin J. and Mary Neary Gallagher. Margaret was a graduate of Jenkins Township High School.

Margaret was a member of St. Mark’s Roman Catholic Church until its closing, and was active in Parish Affairs, the Legion of Mary, and served as secretary on St. Mark’s Parish Council. She most recently was an active member of St. Maria Goretti Parish.

An employee of International Color Printing until its closing, Margaret then worked as Personnel Secretary at Mercy Hospital in Wilkes-Barre until her retirement.

Margaret was preceded in death by her brothers Anthony, Michael and James Gallagher; and sisters Mary Gallagher, Catherine Rapasky, Jane Missett, Therese Brennan and Anna Walker; nieces Roseann Gallagher and Ann Brennan.

She is survived by eighteen nieces and nephews, many great nieces and great nephews.

Funeral services will be Friday, October 28, 2016 at 12:45pm from the Peter J. Adonizio Funeral Home, 251 William Street, Pittston with a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:30pm in St. Ignatius Church, 339 N. Maple Avenue, Kingston. Msgr. Neil J. Van Loon will officiate. Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton. Friends may call Thursday, October 27, 2016 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm and Friday, October 28, 2016 from 11:30am until time of services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Maria Goretti Parish, 42 Redwood Drive, Laflin, PA 18702 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
