Pasqualina (Lena) Parente


Pasqualina (Lena) Parente, 78, of Hughestown, passed away Saturday, January 30, 2016 in Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia.

Born in San Paolino, Italy on October 10, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Semino and Escilla Papa Censullo.

Lena attended school in Italy and came to the United States in 1960. In her earlier years, she worked in the local garment industry and was a member of the ILGW union.

She was a member of the former St. Rocco’s Church, Pittston, and attended St. Joseph Marello Parish, Pittston.

Lena and her husband of 57 years, Angelo have been in the restaurant and bakery business for over 40 years. Most recently, they own and operate, along with their family, Parente’s Italian Food Center and Bakery as well as Parante’s Restaurant on North Main Street in Pittston.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be greatly missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Giuseppe Censullo and Tomasso Censullo.

In addition to her husband, Angelo, surviving are daughters, Carmelina Oliveri and her husband Joseph, Hughestown; and Angelina Morgan and her husband, Larry, Exeter; sons, Sam Parente and his wife Jean, Pittston Township and Peter Parente, Hughestown and his fiancé Angela Brinsfield; grandchildren, Joseph Oliveri and his wife Maria; Tina Oliveri and her fiancé Miguel Cielo; Melissa Macario and her husband Anthony; Amy DeOrio and her husband Carmen; Angelo Parente; Samuel Parente; and Peter Parente; great-grandsons, Nico; Vinny; Angelo and Joseph; numerous nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 5, 2016 at 9:30am in the Oblates of St. Joseph Seminary, 1880 Highway 315, Pittston. Those attending are asked to go directly to the Oblates Seminary on Friday morning. Interment will follow in St. Rocco’s Cemetery, Pittston Township. Friends may call at the Oblates Seminary on Thursday, February 4, 2016 from 5pm-8pm. Memorial donations may be made to Oblates of St. Joseph Seminary. Arrangements are entrusted to the Peter J. Adonizio Funeral Home, 251 William Street, Pittston.
