Lena Rossi


Lena Rossi, 100, of the Old Boston Section of Jenkins Township, passed away Sunday, February 21, 2016 in Regional Hospital, Scranton surrounded by her family.

Born at home in the Old Boston Section of Jenkins Township on September 14, 1915, she was the daughter of the late John and Margaret Matteucci Boccolini.

She attended Jenkins Township schools. In her earlier years, she worked in the local garment industry. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She loved her family and being a homemaker to them. She especially enjoyed cooking and baking. She also enjoyed taking care of her flower and vegetable garden. She was the oldest living resident of Old Boston.

She was a life member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, now St. Joseph Marello Parish, Pittston.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Rossi who died in 1970; brothers, Dominic, Frank, Anthony, Sam, Paul, and John Boccolini; and two infant sisters.

Surviving are her children, Joan Rossi, Old Boston; Charles Rossi, Jr. Old Boston; and Charlotte Kaufer (Sheldon), Kingston; grandson, Scott Kaufer, Kingston; brother, Gene Boccolini (Flora), Newtown, PA; step-granddaughter, Susan Kaufer and step-great-granddaughters Maya and Olivia Buckman; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family would like to thank Dr. Martin Moran for the compassionate care he provided to Lena over the years.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at 1:00pm in St. Joseph Marello Parish, 237 William Street, Pittston. Those attending are asked to go directly to the church. There will be no calling hours. The family asks that flowers be omitted. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville. Arrangements are entrusted to the Peter J. Adonizio Funeral Home, 251 William Street, Pittston.
