Gerard (Jerry) A. Hines


Gerard (Jerry) A. Hines, 73, of East Stroudsburg formerly of Pittston, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Thursday, May 26, 2016. Born in Pittston on January 12, 1943, he was a son of the late John A. Hines and Kathryn Callahan Hines.

He was a graduate of St. John the Evangelist High School, Pittston. He was a life-long member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston and a former member of St. Matthew’s in East Stroudsburg. His work career was in hospital and nursing home administration; he and his wife retired in 2012 as owner/operator of Milford Manor Assisted Living in East Stroudsburg. He enjoyed spending his winters at his home in Florida.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle and will be greatly missed.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, John A. Hines, Jr. and Retired Naval Captain Father Joseph William Hines; and a sister-in-law, Ellen M. Lawler.

Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Mary Ann (Lawler) Hines; two daughters, Patricia Ann Hines, Vienna, VA and Mary Eileen Hines-Wurz (Erik), East Stroudsburg; two granddaughters, Riley Ellen and Morgan Mary; mother-in-law, Helen Lawler; sisters, Mary Kay Gvodas (John M. Sr.), Royersford; Ann Hunter (Thomas), Jenkins Township; Margaret Belinka (Joseph), Swoyersville; sister-in-law, Joni Hines, Schwenksville; brothers, Thomas F. Hines (Theresa), Pittston; Robert H. Hines (Eileen), Exeter; Joseph C. Hines (Patricia), Pittston; and Patrick J. Hines, Wyoming; brother-in-law, Thomas Lawler (Laura), Virginia; numerous nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at 10:00am in St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 William Street, Pittston. Those attending are asked to go directly to church on Wednesday morning. Interment, parish cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday, May 31, 2016 from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm at the Peter J. Adonizio Funeral Home, 251 William Street, Pittston. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Notre Dame Elementary School, 60 Spangenburg Avenue, East Stroudsburg, PA 18301.
