William R. Surma, 72, of Nazareth and originally of the Port Griffith Section of Jenkins Township, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at home.Born in Pittston on January 5, 1944, he was the son of the late William and Helen Polinchak Surma.
He was a graduate of Jenkins Township High School and served in the US Army. He retired from Tobyhanna Army Depot where he had worked as an electronics technician.
He was a loving father and grandfather and truly enjoyed attending his grandsons sporting activities and events. He enjoyed following local and national politics.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Carol Shambe Surma in 2003; son, Samuel Surma in 1984; and brother-in-law, Fred Matani in 2015.
Surviving are his daughter, Lisa Borick and her husband Christopher, Nazareth; grandsons, Samuel and John Borick; sisters, Shirley Guarneri and her husband Joseph, Pittston; Dorothy Matani, West Wyoming; and Helena Wozniak and her husband Max, Old Forge; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 10am from the Peter J. Adonizio Funeral Home, 251 William Street, Pittston. Interment will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Schooley Avenue, Exeter. Friends may call Friday, June 3, 2016 from 5pm-8pm at the funeral home.
