Patrick J. Norwood


On February 14, 1948, a Valentine baby was born in Belfast, N. Ireland to Charles and Elizabeth Mahony Norwood. This child was named Patrick.

Pat was raised in Belfast for the majority of his youth, but because of his father’s employment, also lived in Turkey, where he attended school in the American Embassy.

Pat graduated from St. Malachy’s College and Queens University with a degree in pure math and statistics. He was employed by Toronto Imperial Life, Toronto, Canada; Auxco Corporation, Livingston, NJ and retired from Nabisco Brands in Hanover Township, PA.

Pat was very active in the community. He was a past president of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick of Greater Pittston and was also a 4th degree Knights of Columbus. He also coached Seton Catholic’s boys and girls soccer teams and was named Luzerne County Coach of the Year. He enjoyed sports particularly watching Manchester United, the New York Yankees, Notre Dame Football and the New York Giants.

Pat was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Elizabeth Mahoney Norwood.

He is survived by his loving family, his wife of 45 years, Margaret (Loftus); son, John (Kristin), Collegeville, PA; daughter, Cara (James) Serino, Pittston and six wonderful grandchildren, Caitlin, Laura and Sean Norwood and James, Michael and Joey Serino. He also leaves his brother Michael (Anne), N. Ireland and sisters, Bernadette (Wayne) Roberts, Winnipeg, Canada and Marian, N. Ireland; sister-in-law, Anne Monahan, West Pittston; brothers-in-law, John and Joseph Loftus, Pittston; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Dr. Patrick Kilduff; the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania; and especially a kind and compassionate nurse, Margy Burke.

Pat will be greatly missed by his loving and caring family and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at 9:30am in St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 William Street, Pittston. Those attending are asked to go directly to the church on Tuesday morning. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call Monday, June 6, 2016 from 4pm-7pm at the Peter J, Adonizio Funeral Home, 251 William Street, Pittston. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Pat’s name to Clyde F. Barker Transplant House, 3940 Spruce Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104 or to the Gift of Life, 401 N. Third Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103.
