Ruth M. Sherman

Our beloved mother, Ruth M. Sherman, age 92, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2016 at Kingston Residence of Sylvania, Ohio with her daughters by her side. She was born in Plymouth, Pa. to the late Thomas and Rose (Raub) O'Rourke.

Ruth graduated from Plymouth High School and Bayonne Nursing School. A veteran of World War II, she was an Army nurse at Ft. Dix, N.J. where she met her husband, Robert, who preceded her in death in 1975. Ruth was an exceptional caregiver and worked as a registered nurse for nearly 50 years, retiring from her career at Clark Summit State Hospital.

Ruth loved her family and was a selfless person who always thought of before herself. Ruth truly enjoyed life and was extremely positive and happy. She loved to have fun including, shopping, reading, current events, QVC, slot machines in Atlantic City, eating out, traveling and being with family and friends. Ruth also enjoyed watching sports, especially the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Even when struggling with Dementia, Ruth was happy and people enjoyed being around her. Our Mom was always there for us. She made us feel loved and set a wonderful example of strength, kindness and compassion.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her brothers, John, George, Donald, William, Thomas and Leonard O'Rourke; sisters, Catherine Dvoroznak, Ellen Rubitsky and Elizabeth Hanlon. Her sister, Margaret Melone, passed away exactly one week after Ruth's passing.
