Charles G. Sciandra Sr., 81, of Jenkins Township, passed away Thursday morning as he was working in his garden - one of the things he loved most. Born in Pittston on June 5, 1935, he was the son of the late Ross Sciandra Sr. and Rose DelRegno Sciandra.
He was a graduate of Pittston High School and had served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.
He retired from Chamberlain Manufacturing where he had worked for 35 years.
He was an avid gardener and enjoyed spending time working in his yard. He also enjoyed grocery shopping using coupons and store flyers.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, James, Anthony and Ross Sciandra.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Rose Marie Lapsansky Sciandra; sons Thomas Sciandra and his wife Brenda, Harding; and Charles Sciandra Jr and his wife Joann, Dallas; daughters, Renee Murphy and her husband Robert, Colorado; and Gina Sciandra, Exeter; grandchildren, Travis and his wife Amanda; Justin; Jaeleen; Janessa; and Gabrielle Sciandra; Robert and Ryan Murphy; great-grandsons, Trevor and Teegan Sciandra; brother, Joseph Sciandra and his wife Josephine, West Pittston; sisters, Rose Mary Porzucek, Jenkins Township and Ann Marie Sciandra, Pittston; sisters-in-law, Lucy and Angeline Sciandra both of Pittston; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Monday, July 11, 2016 at 9am from the Peter J. Adonizio Funeral Home, 251 William Street, Pittston with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30am in St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 William Street, Pittston. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call Sunday, July 10, 2016 from 4pm to 7pm at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Shrines Hospital; St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to the Care and Concern Ministries.
