Evelyn L. Scherer, 94, of Exeter, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2016 in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township. Born in Pittston on July 18, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Louise DeVergilis Menn.
She was a graduate of Pittston High School.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph A. Scherer in 1991; brothers, George, Henry, Oscar and Joseph Menn; sisters, Sylvia Amico; Jane Menichello; and Mabel Mattern.
Surviving are her daughter, Louise Knight, Millersville, MD; son, Thomas Scherer and his wife JoAnn, Reading; grandchildren, Kyle and Westley Scherer and Andrew Knight; great-grandchild, Justin Scherer; sister, Florence Stankoski, Exeter; numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at 10:30am in Corpus Christi Parish, 605 Luzerne Avenue, West Pittston. Those attending are asked to go directly to the church. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Carverton. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Peter J. Adonizio Funeral Home, 251 William Street, Pittston.
