George (Butch) Mizenko, Jr., 79, of Harding passed away peacefully at home on Friday, December 2, 2016. Born in Luzerne on June 21, 1937 to the late George Mizenko, Sr. and Margaret Skrekut Mizenko.
George was a graduate of Luzerne High School. He served six and a half years in the US Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War. He retired from Sheet Metal Local 44 and was a member of the Swoyersville American Legion post 644.
He is survived by his loving wife Loretta Metura Mizenko and their four daughters, Georgeann Bondurant and her husband Mike of Halafax Virginia; Christine Turk and her husband David, Falls; Margaret Macareo of Pittston; and Madelyn Mizenko of Lake Winola. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, Carolyn Redmond; Lorrie Bray; Michalle and Rachel Turk; Tanya Macareo; Mandy Malone; and Joseph Macareo, Jr; 4 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Carole Kolc Long and Geraldine Gilbert.
George and Loretta just celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary with a Mediterranean cruise and a Caribbean cruise. He loved to travel, fish, his flannel pajamas and the remote control. He was an avid foodie and had a big heart for animals; however, his greatest love was for his family, by whom he will be sadly missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at 10am in Church of the Holy Redeemer, Rt. 92, Harding. Those attending are asked to go directly to the church on Tuesday morning. There will be no calling hours. Private interment will be in St. Mary’s Maternity Cemetery, Swoyersville. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Peter J. Adonizio Funeral Home, 251 William Street, Pittston.
