Marguerite Joan Schevets Dull


The loving life of Marguerite Joan Schevets Dull , cherished wife of 60 years to James W. Dull of West Haven, CT ended peacefully on January 20, 2017, with her family at her bedside. Born June 5, 1924 to the late John and Frances (Rudaitis) Schevets of Pittston, PA., Marguerite Attended primary school at St. John the Evangelist parish in Pittston and later graduated from Pittston High School in 1941.

As a teenager, she studied and performed with the Tony Grant Company in Wilkes-Barre, appearing on regional vaudeville bills, Steel Pier in Atlantic City, and in area civil, community, and popular clubs. She later studied voice at Wilkes College (now university) and with Mrs. Hilda Riggio in New Haven, CT. She also studied piano with Rebecca Raffaele in New Haven and became a longtime member of the WELI/Greater New Haven Community Chorus, and later the New Haven Chorale. She provided a notable solo in the Community Chorus’ 1976 Bi-Centennial program in Philadelphia, the spiritual “Sometimes I Feel”.

Her business career included positions as a teller at Liberty National Bank and as office manager at Suburban Propane Gas Co. Over the years she also provided support for her family’s tavern/banquet business on North Main St. in Pittston. As a Connecticut resident, she was the office manager for the Adirondack Wire and Cable Company in New Haven until her retirement in 1963.

In addition to her husband James, she is survived by her nephew John and his wife Debby, her nephew Frank and his wife Denise, and her niece Marilyn and her Husband John Butler. She is also survived by her great-nieces Lauren and Marylyn and one great-nephew Andrew. Marguerite was predeceased by her brother John and his wife Marjorie and her brother Frank and his wife Marilyn.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 9:30am in St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 William Street, Pittston. Those attending are asked to go directly to the church on Saturday morning. Interment, St. Casimir’s Cemetery, Pittston. Friends may call Friday, January 27, 2017 from 4pm – 7pm at Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, 251 William Street, Pittston. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations in Marguerite’s name be made to Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd, Branford, CT.
