Joseph R. Zaffuto, 57, of Pittston Township, passed away Sunday, September 17, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Pittston on January 14, 1960, he was the son of Theresa Piedmont Zaffuto of Pittston and the late Charles Zaffuto.
He was a graduate of Pittston Area High School, class of 1977. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston.
Joe was a carpenter and worked for Dupont Developers. He was very proud of building his own home. He enjoyed hiking and taking walks with his two Akita dogs. Joe was actively involved with his sons’ youth sports – basketball and baseball. He was a loving husband, father, son, and brother.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 26 years, Mary Ellen Opeka Zaffuto; sons, Brandon and Kolton, at home; brother, Charles Zaffuto, Pittston; sister, Ann Zaffuto, Pittston; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Thomas and Margaret Opeka, Pittston; nephew, Charles Zaffuto; and brothers-in-law.
Mary Ellen would like to thank Dr. Michalene Torbik, Dr. Michael Riddenberg, Dr. Bruce Saidman, as well as the staffs of Medical Oncology Associates and Celtic Hospice.
Funeral services will be Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 9am from Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, 251 William Street, Pittston with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30am in St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call Friday, September 22, 2017 from 5pm-8pm at the funeral home.
