Helen Ann (Verdine) Sarnowski, 73, of Laflin passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at Regional Hospital, Scranton, surrounded by her loving family.
Born July 26, 1944 in Stroudsburg, she was the daughter of the late Raphael and Pauline Cavelle Verdine.
Helen was a graduate of St. John’s High School, Pittston and furthered her education at Marywood College, where she received her Master’s Degree.
Helen taught in the Pittston Area School Distract for 35 years. After retirement she continued to teach at Fortis Institute.
She was a devoted catholic and enjoyed going to St. Ann’s novena every year. Helen was a long time member of St. Maria Goretti Church, Laflin.
Helen greatly enjoyed going for lunch with her family, was a loving wife, mother, and sister and will be truly missed.
Helen is survived by her husband, Gary Sarnowski; daughter Marian Sarnowski, Cleveland OH.; and sister, Marian Verdine, Yatesville.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, October 16, 2017 at 11AM in St. Maria Goretti Church, 42 Redwood Dr., Laflin. The Parish Rosary Group will pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet and Rosary in the church 30 minutes before the Mass. Friends may call from 10AM until the time of mass at the church. Interment will follow in St. John the Evangelist Cemetery, Pittston.
