Francis L. McGarry, Jr., 91, of Pittston, passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2017 in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre. Born in Wilkes-Barre on October 28, 1926, he was the son of the late Francis and Mary (Kelly) McGarry
Frank was a graduate of St. Nick’s/St. Mary’s High School, Wilkes-Barre. He then served in the US Navy as a Seabee and was stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
Frank worked as a lineman for the Lehigh Valley Railroad and was a grocery manager at Percy Browns, Wilkes-Barre for many years. He eventually retired from Matthews Paint Store.
He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston. Frank was an avid Notre Dame and New York Yankee fan. He was a true gentleman, a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. He was a genuine family man who always put his family’s needs first before his own. Frank had a wonderful sense of humor and was known for his great one-liners. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughters, Linda McGarry Tully and Susan McGarry; son-in-law, Robert Hannon; brother, Robert McGarry; sisters-in-law, Barbara McGarry and Louise McGarry; niece, Patricia McGarry Decastro.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Mary Cunningham McGarry; daughters, Sheila McGarry, Pittston and Lynne Shatinsky and her husband Charlie, Cranford, NJ; brothers, Thomas McGarry and wife Mary Lou, Binghamton, NY, Edward McGarry and his wife Lucille, Charlotte, NC, and John McGarry, Abington, PA; grandchildren, Charles Tully, Pittston, C.J., Kathleen, and Ryan Shatinsky, Cranford, NJ; also known as Papa to Kayla Graffam, Los Angeles, CA, Marianne Graffam, New Orleans, LA, and Steven Graffam, Gainesville, FL and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at 10:30am from Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, 251 William Street, Pittston with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 William Street, Pittston. Interment will take place at the parish cemetery at the convenience of the family. Friends may call Tuesday, January 2, 2018 from 5 pm-8 pm at the funeral home.
