Gabriel Xavier Opello, 91, formerly of Dupont, passed away Saturday, May 19, 2018 in Gino Merli Veterans Center, Scranton. Born in Dupont, he was the son of the late Gabriel and Mary Rydzy Opiela.
He attended Dupont High School and served in the US Navy during World War II stationed in Okinawa.
He retired from Topps Chewing Gum.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Ceclia Opello in 2013, daughter Dolores Catherine Pond in 2018; brothers, John, Walter, Joseph and Alexander; sisters Frances, Camille, and Mary.
Surviving are a son Ronald Opello and his wife Ann Marie, NC; daughters Louise McCarthy and her husband Mark, Texas and Karen Dougherty and her husband Michael, Stroudsburg; 6 grandchildren; 1 great grandson; brother Casimir Opiela, Dupont; son-in-law David Pond, Factoryville; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Thursday, May 31, 2018 at 9am from Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, 251 William Street, Pittston with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30am in Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery Chapel, Pine Street, Dupont. Interment, Sacred Heart Cemetery, Dupont. Friends may call Thursday morning from 8am to 9am at the funeral home.
