JoAnn E. Capone, 77, formerly of Yatesville, passed away Thursday, August 16, 2018, in Geisinger. She was the wife of the late Sam J. Capone, Jr.
Born in Pittston on February 16, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Marie Petrello Graziano.
JoAnn was a graduate of St. John the Evangelist High School, Pittston and College Misericordia with a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics. She completed post graduate work at Wilkes and Scranton Universities as well as Kings College. Prior to retirement, she was a teacher at Pittston Area High School where she assisted the district in developing and implementing the computer science curriculum. She had also served as head of the computer science department at Pittston Area.
JoAnn and her husband owned and operated the Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy in Exeter for several years prior to his death.
For the last several years, JoAnn resided in Edwardsville.
Surviving are her daughter Kara Harrer, PharmD and her husband Stephen and their children Matthew and Alexandra, of Hughesville, MD; sister Marilou Bray and her husband Michael; and several cousins.
The family will be forever grateful to Dr. Michaeline Torbik and her staff for their kind and compassionate care. Thank you also to the Geisinger Health Care System and Trans Med Transportation Services.
JoAnn wanted to express her personal appreciation to Dr. Raymond Joseph and the Pittston Fresnius Dialysis Center Staff for the assistance, comfort, respect and patience they demonstrated.
The family is indebted to the “Angels from Heaven” who provided excellent care and affection and assured JoAnn the best quality of life – Christine, Jaque, Jennifer, Beth, Kristina, Mary Kay, and Wendy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, August 20, 2018 at 1:00pm in St. Joseph Marello Parish, 237 William Street, Pittston. The family will receive friends and relatives in the church from 12noon until the time of mass. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Carverton. In lieu of flowers, JoAnn requested donations be made to her favorite charities: Make-A-Wish Foundation and Celtic Hospice.
