Bernadine Eileen Loughney, 80, of Pittston passed away Friday, October 5, 2018 in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital after a long battle with leukemia. Born in Dupont, PA on December 21, 1937, she was the youngest of 10 children of the late Henry and Anna (Gemzek) Grabowski.
Bernadine was a graduate of Pittston Central Catholic High School and General Hospital School of Nursing where she received her Registered Nurse Certification. Bernadine worked as an Operating Room Nurse for many years in Scranton, Wilkes-Barre and Kingston hospitals. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, reading, gardening, traveling and enjoying summers at Harvey’s Lake. Bernadine was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston, PA. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, will be truly missed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers John, Chester, Hank, and Eddie Grabowski and sister Irene Satkowski.
Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Gerald J. Loughney; daughter Carol Zivitz and her husband Mike, Raleigh, NC; sons Jay Loughney and his wife Leigh, Collegeville, PA; Chris Loughney and his wife Shelley, Exeter, PA; and Mark Loughney and his wife Katie, Arlington, VA; grandchildren Owen and Brynn Zivitz; Ayden, Declan, Riley, Aaron, Connor, Lilly, Finn, and Delaney Loughney; sisters Florence McCague, NY; Lottie Kosik and her husband Paul, Dupont, PA; and Ann Dolan and her husband Bill, NJ; brother Felix Grabowski, Florida; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Thursday, October 11, 2018 at 9:30am from Adonizio Funeral Home, 251 William Street, Pittston PA with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am at St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 William Street, Pittston, PA. Internment, Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 612 Mt. Olivet Road, Wyoming, PA. Friends may call Wednesday, October 10, 2018 from 4pm-8pm at the funeral home.
