Robert G. Donovan


Robert G. Donovan, 87, of Pittston, passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2018, in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township. Born in Avoca on June 27, 1931, he was the son of the late Daniel and Catherine Dolan Donovan.

He graduated from Avoca High School in 1949 and received a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Scranton. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956.

He held various positions as an engineer, including a vice president at International Correspondence School, Scranton, before leaving to start his own business, Mag-Text, which later became Pin-6.

He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston; Fox Hill Country Club; a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus JFK Council #372, Pittston; and the Friendly Sons of Greater Pittston. He was an avid golfer, a world traveler, and a devoted fan of Notre Dame football.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughter Carole Brannan, brothers John and Daniel Donovan, infant brother Joseph Donovan, and nephew Thomas Donovan.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Mary Doris Delaney Donovan; sons Robert Donovan, Pittston and Michael Donovan, Granger, IN; daughters Susan Lombardo and her husband Michael, Pittston; Jane Neal and her husband Griffith, Alameda, CA; and Eileen Donovan, Washington, D.C.; son-in-law Joseph Brannan, Morrisville, NC; grandchildren Catherine and Kristen Lombardo, Conor and Liam Neal, and Michael and Ryan Brannan; brother Paul Donovan and his wife Veronica, Las Vegas, NV; numerous nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 1pm in St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 William Street, Pittston. The family will receive friends and relatives in the church from 12 noon until the time of mass. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, 251 William Street, Pittston. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Care and Concern Ministries of St. John the Evangelist.
