Helen A. Brigido, 98, of Pittston, passed away at home Monday, December 31, 2018.Born in Pittston on March 11, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Sam and Mary Grace D’Angelo Rosa.
She was a graduate of Pittston High School, class of 1938. As a very young manager of Alan’s shoe store for 15 years, she was known to all the customers as being a great salesperson and one who spoke Italian for many who did not know the English language. Then, for over forty years, Helen along with her late husband, owned and operated Quality Roofers and Builders Hardware Store in Pittston. Helen also obtained a movie projectionist license to help her husband in the 3 movie theatres and drive-in that he owned. In addition, Helen obtained a cosmetology and cosmetology manager license as she helped her daughter in her business. Helen was honored with one of the first distinguished Woman of the Year awards by the Greater Pittston Chamber of Commerce in 2015.
She always loved to learn something new and kept herself active and involved in her children and grandchildren’s lives. Her work ethic extended to all the members of her family, and her kindness, compassion and respect were evident to everyone she encountered both personally and professionally. Faith and Family were the most important things in her life. She was a member of Our Lady of the Eucharist Parish, Pittston.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Brigido; daughter, Rosemary Brigido; siblings, Angelo Rosa; Mary D’Elia; Rose Litzy and Paul Rosa.
Surviving are her daughter Barbara Quinn and her husband Martin, Pittston; grandchildren Mitch Quinn and his wife Kim, Hanover Township; Michael Quinn and his wife Tara, West Pittston; and Brian Quinn and his wife Denise, King of Prussia; great-grandchildren, Zach; Jake; Samantha; Katie; and Kearney; brother, Carl Rosa, Avoca; numerous nieces and nephews; and her extended family, Tom and Ellen Romanko; Kate Quinn and Jill Samuels.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Pittston Memorial Library, 47 Broad St., Pittston, PA 18640 or Our Lady of the Eucharist Church, 535 North Main Street, Pittston.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, January 4, 2019, at 11am in Our Lady of the Eucharist Church, 535 North Main Street, Pittston. Those attending are asked to go directly to the church on Friday morning. Interment will follow in Old Forge Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday, January 3, 2019 from 5pm to 8pm at Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, 251 William Street, Pittston.
