Anne L. Monahan


Anne L. Monahan of West Pittston, formerly of Manahawkin and Parsippany, New Jersey passed away peacefully on March 15, 2019 at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born March 31, 1943 in Pittston, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Ann McGuiness Loftus.

Anne graduated from St. John the Evangelist High School and Marywood College. Upon graduating from Marywood, she moved to Parsippany, New Jersey and began her teaching career. For over twenty years, she worked as an elementary school teacher in the Parsippany-Troy Hills School District. During this time, Anne was named “Outstanding Teacher of the Year.”

She was the wife of the late Joseph T. Monahan with whom she spent many happy years at their shore house in Manahawkin, New Jersey.

Anne was a member of The Red Hat Society and Friends of the Greater Pittston Library.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Patrick J. Norwood.

Anne is survived by step-daughter, Melissa Davis, Arizona; step-son, Kevin Monahan, California; sister, Margaret Norwood, Exeter; brothers; Joseph Loftus, West Pittston and John Loftus, Pittston; nephew, John (Kristin) Norwood, Collegeville; nieces; Cara (James) Serino, Pittston and Meghan (Paul) Kita; numerous great nieces, nephews, in-laws and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at 9:30am in St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 William Street, Pittston. Those attending are asked to go directly to church on Tuesday morning. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call Monday, March 18, 2019 from 5pm-7pm at Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, 251 William Street, Pittston. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Greater Pittston Memorial Library, 47 Broad St. Pittston, PA or the Care and Concern Clinic, 37 William St. Pittston, PA.
