Angela Acierno, 91, of Hughestown, passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, after a brief illness.


Born on April 20, 1934, she was the only daughter of the late Vincent Barbera and Marianne “Anna” Valenti Barbera.


She was a graduate of Pittston Twp. High School and Wyoming Seminary Dean School of Business. She began her career as a Secretary for Tabone and Barbera Construction Co. and then spent many years in the local banking industry, starting in the general ledger department for Miners’ Bank, continuing as a teller at 1st Eastern Bank, PNC Bank, and the Old Forge Bank. Finally, Mrs. Acierno was the Secretary of Hughestown Borough for over a decade.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Gaetano “Guy” J. Acierno, her daughter, Marianne Acierno and granddaughter, Katherine Acierno.


She is survived by her children; Carolyn Orloski (Frank “Bucky”), Moosic, Patrick Acierno, Reading, PA, Vincent Acierno (Beth) Chapel Hill, NC, grandchildren; Joshua Orloski (Alaina Fife), Jeremy Orloski (Ariella Sparr), Avery Acierno (Andie Spence), great-grandson Avi, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, and many dear friends and neighbors.


The family will receive friends and relatives Thursday, February 5, 2026, from 5PM-7PM at Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, 251 Willaim St., Pittston and again Friday February 6, 2026, from 8AM-9:15AM at the funeral home.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, February 6, 2026, at 9:30AM in St. Joseph Marello Parish, 237 William St., Pittston.


Private interment will be in Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville, PA.


In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Katherine Nell Acierno Women’s Health/Doula Scholars Program fund.
