Anthony J. Chairge, Jr.

Anthony J. Chairge, Jr., age 39, of Pittston, passed away peacefully in his Saviors care on Monday, December 11, 2023.  He was the beloved son of Patricia and Anthony J. Chairge, Sr.  He is survived by his parents, sister, Anne and a brother, Peter.  He was preceded in death by grandparents Amelia and John Silvestri, of Peckville and Carmella and Sam Chairge, of Pittston.  Anthony was fortunate to have had many aunts and uncles who showered him with love.

Anthony was created by God with Down Syndrome and endowed with an eternal soul bearing His image and likeness.  He entered an early intervention program administered by St. Joseph Center of Scranton at 5 weeks of age.  He continued in a program of special education, with the love and kindness of teachers of the Mattei Center in the Pittston Area School District until age 21.

At age 28, Anthony’s future was to be entrusted to the love care and compassion of St. Joseph Center.  He was to spend his remaining years in their Community Residential Homes, with a loving daily support staff who ministered to him in place of his parents.

Our Catholic faith teaches that Anthony’s immortal soul has returned to his Creator without intellectual, physical or emotional limitations.  We thank God for the many blessings bestowed on Anthony and his family.  Anthony will surely experience for all eternity a blessing that Jesus gave to us, and is carved onto his cemetery monument: “Blessed are the pure of heart, for they shall see God.”  While we are all born in innocence, to leave the world in innocence is a special gift of God.

Arrangements are entrusted to Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, Pittston.  A private prayer service will be celebrated at the funeral home with a Catholic Mass at a future date in St. Joseph Marello Parish, Pittston.  Interment, at the convenience of the family in St. Rocco’s Cemetery, Pittston Township.  Donations in his memory may be made to St. Joseph Center, 2010 Adams Avenue, Scranton, PA  18509.

My condolences to Mr and Mrs Chairge and to Anne and Peter. Anthony was an amazing young man and he will truly be missed by myself. I will always remember his smile and his hugs and every memory I have of him. May God take him into his arms and care for him.
