Anthony J. Massara, 87, of Exeter, passed away Monday January 6, 2025, at Allied Services Hospice Center, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Harding, he was the son of the late James and Margaret Yurish Massara.
Tony graduated from Pittston High School, class of 1956.
In his earlier years he had worked in the local garment industry for Star Garment, Exeter, where he met his future wife, the former Gilda Moriconi.
For many years until retirement, Tony along with his wife Gilda, owned and operated Massara’s Market, on Butler Street in Pittston, which was started by his late grandparents. They served many generations that became more like family than customers. Tony was highly regarded as a great butcher and an honest and fair businessman.
Tony was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he will be truly missed.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Mary Ann; sisters, Antoinette Davis and Diane Fusco.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Adalgisa “Gilda” Moriconi Massara and their daughters; Tina LoBrutto and husband Carmen, Hughestown and Gina Smith, Pittston. Also surviving are grandchildren, Maria and husband Atty. Peter J. Adonizio, Jr., Mary Kate and husband Kyle Romm, Carmen Anthony LoBrutto and fiancé Katie Franchak, Colin Smith and fiancé, Alexandra Padavano, great-granddaughter, Alora Adonizio, sister, Anita and husband Fred Mecadon, sister-in-law Gerri Moriconi, brother-in-law Carmen Fusco, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday January 11, 2025 at 10am in St. Barbara’s Parish (formerly St. Anthony’s Church), 224 Memorial Street, Exeter. The family will receive friends and relatives from 9am- till time of mass in the church. Private interment, St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Schooley Avenue, Exeter.
