Carl Scarantino, Sr., 86, of Pittston, passed away peacefully at home on February 23, surrounded by loved ones.

Carl was the devoted husband of Catherine (Markowsky) with whom he shared more than 63 years of marriage. He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel; mother, Grace (Miraglia); and older brother, Louis.

Born and raised in Pittston, Carl proudly served his country in the United States Army while stationed in France. Following his service, he graduated from the University of Scranton. He built a successful career, retiring from Prudential, while also operating a tax preparation business from his home for many years.

Carl’s life was a testament to faithfulness, hard work, and love of family—evidenced by his devotion to Cathy, his service to his country, and the renowned tomatoes he shared with pride. Carl’s legacy is carried forward by his children: Sam (Michelle) Scarantino, Sandra (Don) Yatko, and Carl (Shelly) Scarantino.

He was the proud grandfather of Nikki (McKinley) Scarantino-Pippin; Kristopher Yatko; Justen (Siobhan) Yatko; Rachelle Yatko; Jaysen Yatko; Jamie Scarantino; Ashley (Matt) Norris. He cherished being the great-grandfather of Grace and Maggie Yatko. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Lois (Gene) Smith, and his nephew, Michael Smith and family.

Carl enjoyed traveling and loved the outdoors—hunting, fishing, golfing, and tending to his backyard garden. He was a faithful member of St. Joseph Marello Parish and a proud member and volunteer of the American Legion.

Above all, Carl will be remembered for his steady presence, deep devotion to family, and the values he instilled in those who knew him. His legacy lives on in the family he loved so dearly.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Fasciana, the staff at Compassion Care, and the private caregivers whose kindness and attentive care meant so much.

The family will receive friends and relatives Monday, March 2, 2026, from 5-7PM at Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, 251 William St. Pittston.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at 9:30AM in St. Joseph Marello Parish 237 William St. Pittston, those wishing to attend are asked to go directly to the church.

Private interment will take place in St. Rocco’s Cemetery.
