Catherine Naples

Catherine Naples, 98, formerly of West Pittston, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 19, 2021, at Wesley Village, Jenkins Township with her loving family by her side.

Born in Foligno, Perugia, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Lorenzo and Rose Cesarini Stella.

Catherine graduated from Pittston Township Schools and Pittston Hospital School of Nursing. Extremely devoted to her profession, Catherine worked as a nurse in the operating room, in private duty, for the Visiting Nurses Association, and as a floor supervisor. She was an avid golfer and member of the Ladies Golf League at Fox Hill Country Club, a board member for the Mental Health Association, and an American Red Cross nursing volunteer at blood drives. Catherine was always there for family, friends and neighbors when they needed a nurse.

She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and will be truly missed. Catherine’s strong faith in God was reflected in all that she did. Known as “Nonna” to many, she cherished her role with sincere love and enthusiasm. We will all miss her delicious Italian cooking.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Michael J. Naples, Jr.; brothers, Dominick, Elmer, and Joseph Stella and sisters, Florence Kraynak, Mary Kutza, and Amelia Scatena; brothers-in-law, Ralph and Patrick Naples; sisters-in-law, Mamie Minichello, Ann Naples and Margaret Buttafoco, and all of their spouses.

Surviving are her daughters, Roseann and husband, Atty. Thomas O’Connor, Kingston and Lydia and husband, John Comerford, Williamsport; grandchildren, Michael O’Connor and wife, Alexandra; Lia Comerford and husband John Evans; Jake Comerford and wife Audrey; Catherine and husband Anthony Ardito; and Mary and husband Sean Kimball; great-grandchildren, Brennan, Alverda, Vincent, Theodore, Maeve, Carolina, Thomas, Rosalie, Margaret and Sophia; numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Catherine’s loving in-home caregivers in West Pittston and Williamsport, and the devoted staff at Wesley Village. We also thank the staff at Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their compassionate care and her long-time physician, Dr. Aliasgar Chittalia.

The family will receive friends and relatives Friday, September 24, 2021, from 10am to 11am in Corpus Christi Parish, 605 Luzerne Avenue, West Pittston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am. Interment to follow in Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville. The family requests those attending kindly wear a face covering and observe social distancing at the viewing and funeral mass. Arrangements are entrusted to Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, 251 William Street, Pittston. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Corpus Christi Parish.

Lydia and Roseann,

Dan and I have so many fond memories of time spent with your mom and dad in Pittston. We loved visiting with them in their beautiful home, they were always so warm and welcoming, just like we were part of your family!! You were truly blessed to have had your mom in your lives for so long and I can only imagine their celebration as they reunite in the afterlife!

Sending much love and prayers for your peace and comfort in the days ahead, as you reflect on all those happy memories they have left with you.

Much love,

Dan and Judy
