Charles J. Grimes

Charles J. Grimes, 78 of Jenkins Township passed away peacefully on Monday January 20, 2025 following a brief illness.


Born on November 9, 1946, Charles was the son of the late Joseph and Helen Grimes. Charles was raised in Plymouth. He moved to Laurel Run Borough where he was active in the Laurel Run Fire Department and was elected to Borough council and served as President. 

 

Charles was employed in the trucking industry for more than five decades. He retired from Con Way Central Express where he served as a driver/sales representative. He previously worked for Friedman’s Express Inc. (FXI) for many years. 

 

Charles was a fourth-degree member and former Grand Knight of the President John F. Kennedy Knights of Columbus Council 372 in Pittston. Charles was a member of the Greater Pittston Friendly Son’s of St. Patrick and had the honor of serving as President and board member. He was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels in Pittston. Charles was a member of St. Rocco’s and St. Joseph Marello in Pittston.

 

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his brothers Joseph and Paul Grimes and sister Mary Hennebaul.

 

Charles is survived by his sister Judy Bethman and her husband Jerry.

Charles is survived by his wife of 36 years Rose Ferentino-Grimes. Charles is survived by his daughter Jacqueline Robbins (Thomas) of California, sons Maurice, Jude (Britni), Jason (Tiffany) and Jarrett (Nicole) Ferentino. 

 

Charles was also known as “Pappa Charlie” to his grandchildren Christopher Gill, Keri Villarreal, Kaylee Robbins, Bradley Robbins, Kayla & Nora Grimes, Anthony, Marah, Dominick, Paulie, Michael, Jude, Victoria and Angelina Ferentino, three great grandchildren Lyla, Grayson and Camden.

 

Charlie is also survived by his nephew Tommy Grimes (Joyce).

 

Charles and Rose shared an incredible love and life. Together they raised their family and traveled the world. Charles would never miss a chance to remind all of us that we are “so blessed.” Charles will be missed by his family, many friends locally and in Naples, Florida. 

 

Friends may call Friday January 24, 2025 from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC 251 William Street, Pittston.

 

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30am Saturday January 25, 2025 in St. Joseph Marello Parish 237 William Street, Pittston.

 

Funeral services will begin in the funeral home at 8:45am on Saturday morning.

 

Private interment, St. Rocco’s Cemetery.

 

Charles family would like to thank the doctors and nurses who cared for Charles over the past several weeks at Geisinger and Allied Services Meade Street Residence.

Rose, I don’t know what to say! My heart is broke to hear of Charlie’s passing. I truly loved waiting on him and you at the bank! I looked forward to every Friday morning to see him in the drive thru and you in the lobby. You both were so happy to know I was moving up within the bank and always encouraged me to keep going. It’s been years since I have seen you both but you both made a memorable connection with me that I will treasure for life. Every time I think of Charlie I can hear his hearty laugh and his big smile! Hold onto the memories that were made and to know someday we will…
