David A. Delaney, Sr.

David A. Delaney, Sr., 63, of Harveys Lake, formerly of Pittston, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, June 25, 2024 in Commonwealth Health Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in Kingston on April 8, 1961, he was the son of the late James Delaney, Sr. and Dorothy Ann Goham Delaney and was a graduate of Pittston Area High School.

Big Dave, as many knew him, retired after 36 years with the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission.  He also had a career with the IATSE Local 82 stage union in the entertainment industry where he sat as an executive board member for many years.

With a heart of gold and his Irish smile, he gave to the community of Harveys Lake that he loved so much.  You could always find him on the dock in the mornings looking over the water as the sun shined over the lake.

He was a proud member of the Harveys Lake American Legion Post 967.  He was a member of the SAL and held the position as Vice Commander to his son, David, who is the SAL Post Commander.  He also served as commodore at the Harveys Lake Yacht Club.

Big Dave was most proud of his son, David, who he stood by each and every day in his construction business, never leaving him alone on any job at any time.   He and his wife Lisa, enjoyed taking long drives with no destination.  His heart not only belonged to us but it belonged to Ireland.  He was an Irishman to his soul.

Big Dave always had a smile for everyone and would help with no questions asked.  He lived life on his terms and enjoyed each and every day.

Surviving are his wife, Lisa Marie Schoenhofen Delaney; son, David A. Delaney, Jr. (Christina Keogh), Harveys Lake; stepson, Thomas Joseph Fender, Hunlock Creek; grandchildren, Liam and Savannah; sister, Karen Adonizio (Charles), Plains Township; brothers, James “Jay” Delaney, Jr. (Valerie), Wilkes-Barre and Paul Delaney (Tammie), Hughestown; aunt, Mary Doris Donovan, Hughestown;  David Jr’s mother, Kimberlee Fisk (Christopher) and David Jr’s sister, Kacie Fisk,  all of Dupont; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at 12pm in Our Lady of Victory Church, 16 Second Street, Harveys Lake.  The family will receive friends and relatives in church from 10am until the time of mass.  Arrangements are entrusted to Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, 251 William Street, Pittston.
