Edward Joseph Kelly, 87, of Harveys Lake, PA, passed away Sunday January 19, 2025 at his home. Born on June 8, 1937, to the late Joseph and Rhea (McGinley) Kelly in Wilkes-Barre.

He was a 1955 graduate of Kingston High School and also a member of the Naval Reserves. He served as District Manager for JS Raub Shoe Corporation and later worked at Luzerne County Transportation and Dallas School District before retiring.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joan Ann (Hurst) Kelly, daughter, Joanne Kelly Kulp (Kenneth), of Martinsburg, WV; son Ed Kelly, Jr. (JoAnne), of Baltimore, MD; his four granddaughters, grandson, and great-granddaughter.
Ed took great joy in his dedication to his community through his service on the Harveys Lake council for 38 years, was General chairman of the Luzerne County Fair from 1991 to 1996, and spent 25 years as the Harveys Lake Fire Department president. He took great pride in his involvement in his community and the friends he made through his years of service.
Known as "Papa" to his family, he enjoyed sharing stories and laughter with his grandchildren and enjoying the lake. His friends and family will deeply miss him. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Compassionate Care Hospice.
To honor Ed's wishes, there will not be any public viewing. A private graveside service will take place at Marcy Cemetery in Duryea.
Great guy. He was an asset to the Harveys Lake community for many years. He was a good friend and loyal customer.
Rest in peace.

Ed will surely be missed but certainly left his mark on our community. Ed was ever the volunteer and joined and participated in all of the civic organizations. He dedicated many years serving in an elected position on Harvey's Lake Borough Council. He was also a volunteer with the Luzerne County Fall Fair, a long-time member of the HL Vol. Fire Dept. as well as other organizations. He never missed meetings and always put in his time with all the organizations he joined. He was a true-blue public servant. We could use a few more people like Ed Kelly. My sincere condolences to his wonderful wife Joan and their son Ed and daughter Joanne and the grandchildren.
Very sorry for your loss. My family and I enjoyed Ed and his family for many years at the Outlet of the lake since I was a child. Ed was a one of a kind. He always got upset at me when I had the large trout season parties at the outlet of the lake when I was a teenager. Since then we’ve grown to be fairly good friends.. I enjoyed having a glass of beer with him at fishtails. We all will miss him. My prayers go to Joan and the rest of the family. rest in peace, my friend.
I’m sorry for your loss. I’m going to miss Ed too. Ed was one of first person’s I met when I moved to Harveys Lake and always enjoyed seeing him every time we met. Ed was a great person! Mark Matlock
