Eileen Burns, 91, of Pittston Township, passed away Saturday December 28, 2024, in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, surrounded by her family.

Born in Pittston on September 26, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Charles Gerosky, Sr., and Evelyn Silinskie Gerosky.
She was a graduate of Jenkins Township High School; received her bachelor’s degree from Bloomsburg University and her master’s degree from Misericordia University. She was a teacher, at Pittston Area School District for 31 years, until her retirement in 1994.
Eileen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and teacher. She will be remembered for her passion for education and her strong commitment to her community. Eileen was an avid reader and strong believer in lifelong learning. She was lucky to have traveled to many wonderful places, in the US and across the world, with her husband, family and friends. She was well liked and respected by those that knew her and will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren, family, and friends.
Eileen was a member of the Jaquelines, the Altar and Rosary Society, and the RedHat Society. She served in multiple positions with The Pittston Memorial Library, PSEA and served as the moderator for the FBLA Club for many years during her teaching career.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Burns and her brother, Charles Gerosky, Jr.
Surviving are her children, Leah Evanoski and husband Rick, Wyoming and their daughter, Margaret; Dr. Leo Burns and wife Dawn, Glen Mills and their children, Eric and Jack; Dr. Erin Capone and husband, Chuck Capone, Plymouth, MA; and their daughter, Sophie; and Eileen Giombetti and her husband, Ron, Duryea, and their children, Ellie, Brian, Abby, Lauren and Sami; great-grandchildren, Julian and Samuel; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to thank the Geisinger Wyoming Valley staff for the exceptional care and compassion they provided during her stay. They would also like to thank Bev, her faithful friend, for all the support, kindness, and compassion she gave to Eileen.
The family will welcome friends and relatives Thursday, January 2, 2025, from 5pm-7pm at Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, 251 William Street, Pittston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, January 3, 2025, at 9:30am in St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 William Street, Pittston. Those wishing to attend are asked to go directly to the church. Interment, Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. John the Evangelist Parish or to the Pittston Memorial Library.
