Ethel (Etsie) Delia

Ethel (Etsie) Delia of Pittston passed away Thursday, July 27, just four days short of her 94th birthday; at the Linwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born July 31, 1929 in Pittston, she was the daughter of the late William and Helen Evans Faraday.

Ethel was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Upon entering Ethel’s home, she would spread her love and warmth by offering you a seat at her kitchen table and insisting you join her in conversation and a home-cooked meal (whether you were hungry or not). She showed her kindness through sharing her wonderful cooking and baking with her family as well as always being the first to call and sing “Happy Birthday” to them each year. Aside from family; some of Ethel’s favorite things were bowling, playing solitaire with friends (and neighbors), Bingo, the Yankees (which she would rarely miss a game of in memory of her loving husband, who she used to watch every game with), and of course, Pizza Perfect.

Ethel’s memory will live on in the form of Christmas cookies like those that she had baked by the dozen each year; shared conversation over tea and toast; each time you see a $10 (because she must have had some connection with Alexander Hamilton?); and even jumping over a hedge just to get her point across...so as Ethel would say, “Get goin’!”

Preceding her in death was her husband of 50 years, Valentine Delia; infant brother Arthur; brother, William; brother, Ralph; sister, Jean; and niece, Joan Kollar.

Surviving are son, Harold, Pittston; daughter, Valerie Thier (Joseph), Dunmore; grandchildren, Harold Jr., Myles, and Racheal Delia; Gabriella Lucarelli Scarnato (Tony), Haley Thier. great-grandchildren Ainslee and Parker Delia; Olivia, Lucas and Matteo Scarnato.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, August 5, 2023, at 9:30am in St. Joseph Marello Parish, 237 William Street, Pittston. Those attending are asked to go directly to the church. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are entrusted to Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, Pittston.
