Florence Ruth Wanko, 99, of West Pittston, passed away Wednesday August 28, 2024 at Allied Services Center City Skilled Nursing, Wilkes-Barre.
Born November 22, 1924 in Plymouth, PA she was the daughter of the late John and Helena Dziekan Zola.
Florence was a graduate of Plymouth High School where she skipped two grades and went on to graduate from Beauty School.
She was a devoted member of Immaculate Conception Church, Corpus Christi Parish, and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Frank Wanko, Sr. in 1986 and 12 silbings. Upon her husband’s death, she took over the family business and lived independently up to the last few months of her life.
Surviving are her sons; Frank Wanko (Maryann) Pittston Twp. and Mark Wanko (Jacqueline) Kingston, grandchildren; Frank William Wanko (Jamie) West Pittston, Marisa Whitteker (Luke) State College, Ryan Wanko (Sandra) Old Forge, Alaina Horbas (Patrick) Riverwoods IL.
Also surviving, great-grandchildren; Emilie Hampton (Brandon), Neal Wanko, Ellesyn, Bryleigh and Lena Whitteker, Jason and Samantha Wanko, Camryn and Colin Horbas, her great-great-grandson, James Hampton, her sister, Bernadine Zola Stroh and numerous nieces and nephews whom she cherished.
Her family would like to thank the caregivers who were so wonderful and loving in the last months of her life.
Her family will receive friends and relatives Friday September 6, 2024 from 10am-12noon at Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC 251 William Street, Pittston. Blessing service will follow at 12 noon.
