Francis Patrick Burns, 84, of Pittston, passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2023, in Wesley Village.
Born in Pittston on October 15, 1938, he was the son of the late Frances Burns (who passed away in the Knox Mine Disaster) and Mary Cusick Burns.
Fran was a graduate of St. John the Evangelist High School, Kings College, and Temple Law School. He was a practicing attorney having worked as an assistant district attorney, a public defender and was law clerk to Common Pleas Court Judge Joseph M. Augello for 17 years.
He had served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Fran was a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Pittston, and the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick of Greater Pittston. He enjoyed Phillies Baseball and Notre Dame Football.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ann E. Burns; sister, Theresa Burns; brother, Joseph Burns; nephews, James Burns and Joseph Burns.
Surviving are sisters-in-law, Pauline Evans, Laflin; and Linda Klein (Michael), Mechanicsburg; brother-in-law, Stephen Lago, Wilkes-Barre; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends and relatives Wednesday, August 23, 2023 from 9am to 11am in St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 William Street, Pittston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am.Interment, Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton.
The family kindly asks that flowers be omitted and memorial donations be made to the Care and Concern Ministries of St. John the Evangelist Church. Arrangements are entrusted to Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, Pittston.
