Gary Loughney, 68, of Port Griffith, passed away peacefully at home, Wednesday, July 1, 2026.
Born in Pittston on September 6, 1957, he was the son of the late Donald R. Loughney, Sr. and Emily Krall Loughney.

A graduate of Pittston Area High School, he went on to receive a bachelor’s degree from King’s College, from which he graduated in 1979.
Gary was employed as a deputy sheriff at the Luzerne County Sheriff’s Department for over 40 years. He also worked part-time as a police officer for the Jenkins Twp. Police Department for nearly 30 years.
Gary enjoyed fishing with his son, woodworking, coaching Little League baseball, and taking care of his garden. He also enjoyed attending and watching games for the New York Yankees and the New York Giants.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Mary McHale Loughney, and their two children, Gary Loughney, Jr., Washington, D.C.; and Jennifer Loughney, Port Griffith. He is also survived by his brother, Donald Loughney, Jr., and his wife Geri, Macungie; his sister, Joyce Brong, and her husband Karl, Millerstown; sister-in-law Susan Wurm; sister-in-law Ann Holland and her husband Mike, all of Virginia; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, July 10, 2026, at 10 a.m. in Communion of Saints Parish, at St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 William St., Pittston.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass in the church.
Private interment will be held in St. John the Evangelist Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Care and Concern Ministries at St. John the Evangelist Church.
