Genevieve C. Scatena, of Jenkins Township, passed away Thursday evening, August 26, 2021. Born in Dupont on October 29, 1931, she was the daughter of the late John and Anna Ruda Celusniak.
She graduated 8th grade in 1945 from Sacred Heart of Jesus School, Dupont and 12th grade in 1949 from Dupont High School. Genevieve was a bookkeeper in the family business Hi-Way Auto and Truck Service, Dupont.
She was a member of St. Joseph Marello Parish, Pittston.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Elmo(Terry) Scatena; brothers, Joseph, Walter, John, Frank and Stanley Celusniak; sisters, Mary Madura, Bertha Makulinski, Helen Lizak Kenny and Valerie Kozek Divala.
She is survived by her daughter, Amy Scatena Powell and her husband Christopher T., of Moosic; sons, Louis Scatena of Jenkins Township; Girard Scatena and his wife Lisa of Jenkins Township; and Gene Scatena; grandchildren, Louis, Alyssa, and Eric Scatena; Kelsey Powell Casari and husband Michael; Christopher T. Powell, III; Teri Lynn Scatena Merola and husband Jason, Girard Scatena, Jr., and Geno Scatena; great-granddaughter, Gianna Merola; sister, Ann Marie (Nancy) Celusniak Sellock, Dupont; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Hospice of the Sacred Heart.
The family will receive friends and relatives Tuesday, August 31, 2021, from 8:30am-9:30am in St. Joseph Marello Parish, 237 William Street, Pittston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30am.Interment, Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton. Arrangements are entrusted to Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, 251 William Street, Pittston.
