George Cawley, 76, Mill Street Pittston left this good green Earth on Tuesday morning, August 13, 2024. George was the son of the late Patrick and Regina Quinn Cawley. The youngest of 9 children, George was so proud of his James Street roots. “All roads lead to James Street..”
George attended St. John’s High School and in 1966, enlisted in the US Army following the footsteps of his 5 big brothers. He was stationed in Germany where he convinced us that he learned to sing “How much is that doggy in the window” in German (Dad, we now know that your translation was wrong.)
He was discharged in April 1969 (his girls and guys at BP will know that this was one of his daily numbers -469). He then moved to Philly where he stayed with his brother Jerry and sister-in-law Terri and fell in love with their 4 children.
Upon his return to his beloved Pittston, he married the former RoseMary Ochrietor who gave him his most prized possessions, his daughters JoAnn and Christine.
He worked as a sales representative for Senco Fastening Systems for greater than 25 years while Ro stayed home with their girls.
These days you would catch George with a coffee and a scratch off or sitting at the machine hitting the button. (We hope the PA Lottery stays afloat with the loss of this great man). Dad, we hope you hit the “big one” up there!
In addition to his Mom and Dad, waiting for George are brothers Donald (Ducker), Bobby, Frank and Jerry and sisters Eleanor Evans, Jean Menziff and Ann Ross, nephews and numerous friends for which his memories were fond and plenty.
Left here on this side of the Heavens to cherish his memories are wife RoseMary, daughters Jojo and Chrissy, sons-in-law, Dave Antal and Frank DeSanto, grandchildren Alex Cawley and Peter Beczek, Hunter Antal, Michael and Chase DeSanto, great granddaughter - his sweetheart - Hayden Beczek, brother Paul, numerous nieces and nephews (everybody needed an Uncle George in their life), many friends and Stanley Cebula who was like a son to George.
The family will receive friends and relatives Thursday, August 15, 2024, from 4pm-7pm in Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, 251 William Street, Pittston.
And please, don’t worry about what to wear - jeans and shorts are FINE. George wouldn’t want it any other way. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, August 16, 2024, at 1pm in St. John the Evangelist Church, 37 William Street, Pittston. Those attending are asked to go directly to the church on Friday. Interment, Parish cemetery. “Shovelyetka… Toot a loo!” Everything’s cope now, Dad.
