George Joseph Anthony

George Joseph Anthony, 90, of Port Griffith, passed away Saturday morning, September 4, 2021, at home surrounded by his family.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Simon and Anna Bolis Anthony.


George worked at Tobyhanna Army Depot in the electronics division for 30 years before retirement. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a fourth degree Knight. He was also a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston, and a member of its Holy Name Society.


George enjoyed fishing and hunting throughout the years as well as tending to his garden and supplied all of his neighbors and physicians with his home grown produce. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren who were the light of his life. George and his wife Ann Marie would have celebrated their 63rd wedding

anniversary on September 6th, 2021.


He was preceded in death by his brothers Joseph, Leo, & Russell Anthony, and sisters, Margaret Flemming & Anna Anthony.


He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Ann Marie Burke Anthony, Port Griffith; his daughter Michelle Tracy and her husband, Christopher, Port Griffith; his son Thomas Anthony and his wife, Cheryl, Avoca; Granddaughter Amanda Gazella and her husband, Victor, Carbondale; Grandson Ryan Tracy and his fiancé, Marisa; Breinigsville. He is also survived by his sister Elizabeth Yanora and her husband, Rocco, West Wyoming; and several nieces and nephews.


The Anthony and Tracy families would like to thank Dr. Kathryn Sallavanti and her staff as well as Compassionate Care Hospice including his aide Jackie, and Nurses Lisa, Lori, Jen, and Tamara for the care and kindness of their husband and father. The family would also like to thank their good friends and loving neighbors Tom and Rose Hughes for always being there for him.


The family will receive friends and relatives Wednesday, September 8, 2021, from 5-7pm in Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, 251 William Street, Pittston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, September 9, 2021, at 9:30am in St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 William Street, Pittston. Interment, parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
