George L. Miller, 95, of West Pittston, passed away Sunday, May 24, 2026, in his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Scranton on December 30, 1930, he was the son of the late Nellie Sites Miller and the late George S. Miller.
A lifelong resident of West Pittston, George served the community in many ways, including serving as an auditor for eight years and retiring in April after 26 years as Tax Collector for West Pittston.
George was a graduate of West Pittston High School, Class of 1950, and served as class reunion chairman for over 50 years.
George was involved in many activities throughout his life. He was employed by Firestine Brothers Grocery Store for 24 years and later worked for PP&L as a towerman for three years before purchasing Firestine’s Grocery, which he owned and operated as Millers Economy for 19 years. He also worked for the Wyoming Valley Sanitary Authority for 14 years before retiring.
George was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was also a life member of West Pittston Hose Co. #1, where he served as Assistant Chief and Fire Chief for six years. He also served on the Hose Company Board of Directors, the West Pittston Ambulance Board, Parks and Recreation Board, West Pittston Pool Committee, and Wyoming Valley Distributing Company, and was a past President of Pittston Kiwanis.
George was honored as Grand Marshal of the Cherry Blossom Festival and was inducted into the Wyoming Area Ring of Pride. He was also inducted into the Luzerne County Sports Hall of Fame and was the recipient of the Sam Falcone Community Service Award.
George was an avid sports fan and loved the Dallas Cowboys. He was actively involved with many Wyoming Area sports programs, serving as a timekeeper for football games and scorekeeper for basketball games, while also attending many other sporting events. He also loved spending time at his favorite restaurant, Agolino’s.
He was a devoted husband of 69 years to Lois (Havard) Miller, and they would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on June 9th. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and treasured his lifelong friends.
He is survived by his wife, the former Lois Havard; daughters, Jacquelyn (Jeff) Koscelansky and Barbara (Paul) Argenio; and son, Edward, at home. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Alyssa (Tom) Mahoney, Alex (Kelly) Argenio, AJ (Meredith) Koscelansky, and Christie (Eddie) Pearson; and seven great-grandchildren: Makenzie, Mia, and Max Argenio; Kayson and Cole Mahoney; and Andy and Lucy Koscelansky. He is also survived by his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joyce and Donald Lloyd, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grand fur babies, and many dear friends.
Viewing will be held on Sunday, May 31st, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Adonizio Funeral Home, 251 William Street, Pittston, PA.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, June 1st, at 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 408 Wyoming Avenue, West Pittston, PA.
Interment will be held at Mountain View Cemetery, Falls, PA.

We are so sorry to hear of Mr. Miller's passing. My husbands family knew him very well and my mother in law had her groceries delivered to her home. George was a very kind and gentle person who did alot for West Pittston. We will miss him very much. The family is in our prayers. RIP George you are one of GODS angels.
We are saddened to hear of George’s passing. He was a wonderful guy. He was one of a kind.- always smiling and happy to greet you. West Pittston has lost a pillar of the community. We loved you, Georgie!
So many happy memories of times with George, Lois, Jackie, Barbie and Eddie. He is one of the best persons I have ever known.
