Georgia Savokinas

Georgia Savokinas, 76, of Pittston Twp., passed away Monday, January 8, 2024, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains, Twp., after a brief battle with pneumonia.

Born in Pittston, on April 6, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Arthur A. Bartolai, Sr. and Anita (Venarucci) Bartolai.

Georgia graduated from Northeast High School and Wilkes-Barre Business College.

She began her career off as a bookkeeper at The First National Bank of Pittston.  Shortly after she began working at Savo’s Pizza, Pittston, where she met the love of her life, Mike Savokinas. They spent many years working side by side running the business.  For a period of time, Georgia and Mike partnered with her brother Artie and opened the Staircase Lounge, Pittston Plaza.  She continued her husband’s legacy running Savo’s Pizza, celebrating over 50 years in business at Pittston Commons, after his passing, until her retirement in 2015.

Georgia was a beautiful person both inside and out.  She was young at heart and never looked her age.  She took great pride in her appearance.  Always impeccably dressed including her hair and makeup.  She was a kind, warm and loving person to whomever she met.  She would always lend a helping hand to coworkers, family, friends and all who needed it.  She was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, and grandmother.  Georgia was a great cook and baker and loved spending time with her family and hosting family dinners.

Anyone who knew Georgia was lucky to have her in their lives.  She will be deeply missed.

She loved to travel with her husband on cruises and trips to Atlantic City. In recent years she enjoyed going to Mohegan Sun, Mt. Airy, and Wind Creek Casinos. She loved watching the Home Shopping Network Channel.
