Gerald John Loughney

Gerald John Loughney, 93, of Nafus Street, Pittston, passed away Friday, June 23, 2023, after a long illness, in Highland Manor, Exeter, surrounded by his family.

Born in Pittston on July 13, 1929, he was the son of the late John and Margaret Carroll Loughney.


Gerald was a graduate of St. John’s High School, proudly served nine years in the US Naval Reserves, and earned an associate’s degree in drafting from Penn State University. He built a distinguished 30-year career as Senior Designer at Marvell Kitchens, Betterhouse Inc, in Wyoming, and later Sells Custom Cabinetry, Pittston, winning multiple national awards for his innovative kitchen and bath designs.

He was an active lifelong member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston where he was a beloved cantor, funeral altar server, and faithful parishioner. He was a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus Pittston, Council 372, where he was a past Grand Knight, choir member, little league coach & bowling league member. Gerald was also a member of the Greater Pittston Friendly Sons of St. Patrick for more than 50 years.

Gerald loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, he always had an Irish song at the ready and treasured singing with his sisters and brothers, and enjoyed spending his summers with family at Harvey’s Lake. A loving father, grandfather, brother and uncle he will be truly missed.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 54 years, Bernadine Eileen Grabowski Loughney in 2018; siblings, John, Thomas, Joseph, Margaret Mary, Capt. Juel Ann, and Michael Loughney.

Surviving are his children, Jay Loughney (Leigh), Collegeville, PA; Chris Loughney (Shelley), Exeter, PA; Mark Loughney (Katie) Arlington, VA; and Carol Zivitz (Michael) Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Ayden, Declan, Riley, Aaron, Connor, Lilly, Finn, Delaney, Owen, and Brynn; his sister, Sr Maré Carol Loughney, IHM, Scranton; brother, Robert, Jenkintown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends and relatives Thursday, July 6, 2023, from 8am-9:15am in Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, 251 William Street, Pittston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 9:30am in St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 William Street, Pittston. Interment, Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
