Helen J. Butera

Helen J. Butera, 95, of Hellertown, formerly of West Pittston, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, in Saucon Valley Manor, Hellertown.

Born in Old Forge, on March 13, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Rosa Panfili Copparoni.


Helen was a graduate of Old Forge High School, class of 1944, and Lackawanna Business College, Scranton, 1947.


She had worked with her husband, James, in the local garment industry for 40+ years where they owned and operated several garment manufacturing plants.


Helen was a devout Christian and had an unshakable faith in the Roman Catholic church. She enjoyed nothing more than to be

surrounded by her family…her three children, nine grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her husband James, and her sister Laura (Copparoni) Shafer. Surviving are her three children: Joseph and wife Corinne (Charlotte, NC), James and wife Cheryl (West Pittston), Paul and wife Carolyn (Hellertown, PA). Grandchildren Michael Butera, Lisa Born, Carla Kroh, Julie Lunich, Christopher Butera, Jim D. Butera, Jeffrey Butera, Isabella Butera, and Paul J. Butera.


The family will receive friends and relatives Thursday, December 29, 2022 from 10am-11am in Corpus Christi Parish, 605 Luzerne Avenue, West Pittston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am.Interment, Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Carverton.


In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Helen’s name, to the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, or the charity of your choice.


Arrangements are entrusted to Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, 251 William Street, Pittston.

Wishing peace for you all. Helen was a special part of our family at the Office of Human Services. We shared many special hours together with lots of great memories!

Dear Butera Family, while there are no word of comfort that I can offer during this difficult time of loss, please know that my thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Though I cannot be there to join you for Helen's Mass, please know she will be in my heart, thoughts and prayers.
