Helyne Marie O’Malley, 87, of Hughestown, passed away Monday, April 17, 2023, in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born in Pittston, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Lena Burgio Hughes.
Helyne was a graduate of Pittston High School and in her earlier years, had worked in the local garment industry. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt and will be greatly missed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, James F. O’Malley, Sr. in 2009; a brother, James Hughes and a brother-in-law, Charles Giardina.
Surviving are her children, Thomas O’Malley and his wife Cynthia, Throop; James O’Malley, Jr. and his wife, Mary Pat, Pittston Township; Maureen Sutkowski and her husband, Robert, Pittston Township; and Joseph O’Malley and his wife Kelly, Jenkins Township; grandchildren, Lena O’Malley; Robert Sutkowski and his fiancé Mairin McHale; Ryan Sutkowski and his girlfriend, Kayla Kondash; Kaylene Samsell and her husband Joseph; Joseph O’Malley; Taryn O’Malley; and Brenna O’Malley; sisters, Joan Giardina, Pittston and Roseann Giardina and her husband Anthony, Pittston; brothers, Jerry Hughes and his wife Kathy, Parsons and Joseph Hughes and his wife Mary, Pittston Township; sister-in-law, Jeanne Randall and her husband Joseph, Pittston; brother-in-law, Edward O’Malley and his wife Margie, Tunkhannock; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends and relatives Friday, April 21, 2023, from 9am-11am in St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 William Street, Pittston. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11am.Interment, parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Care and Concern Ministries of St. John the Evangelist Church. Arrangements are entrusted to Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, 251 William Street, Pittston.
