Janet A. Delaney

Janet A. Delaney, 85, of Pittston, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 3, 2022, in Mercy Center, Dallas.

Born in Pittston on August 23, 1936, she was the daughter of the late John A. and Mary Killian Delaney.

Janet was a graduate of St. John the Evangelist High School, College Misericordia and Lehigh University. She retired as a teacher/guidance counselor for the Abington Heights School District after 35 years of service.

Janet was an active member of St. John the Evangelist Parish, Pittston as well as the Pittston Memorial Library and the Serra Club. She also served on the Pittston Tomato Festival Committee for many years and was a volunteer at the local chapter of the American Red Cross. In 2006, she was awarded the Sunday Dispatch Joseph Saporito Lifetime of Service Award. Janet loved travel, reading and the arts.

She was a devoted and loving aunt and will be missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, John Joseph Delaney and James (Jay) Delaney, Sr.; niece, Carole Brannan; brother-in-law, Robert G. Donovan; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Ann Delaney.

Surviving are her sister, Mary Doris Donovan, Hughestown; many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends and relatives Monday, May 9, 2022, from 8:30am to 10am in St. John the Evangelist Parish, 35 William Street, Pittston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am.Interment, St. John the Evangelist Cemetery, Pittston.


Memorial donations may be made to the Pittston Memorial Library or to the Kids Closet at St. John the Evangelist Parish. The family would like to extend a sincere Thank You to Dr Joseph Radzwilka and the staff at the Mercy Center for their kind and compassionate care of Janet over the past several years. Arrangements are entrusted to Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, 251 William Street, Pittston.
