Jasmine Mikita

Jasmine Mikita, 91, formerly of West Pittston, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 28, 2024, in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center. Born in West Pittston, Pa on December 23, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Grace Manganiello Chechele.


Jasmine was a graduate of West Pittston High school class of 1950. She worked at Pagnotti Coal Co, Pittston Lawn Mower Plant and Bureau of Unemployment Office before she became the secretary for Wyoming Area Catholic School where she finished her career of 30 years. She was a life-time member of Immaculate Conception Church, Corpus Christi Parish. She was a Member of the Red Hat Association, West Pittston Women’s Club and volunteered at the West Pittston Library. 

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the late Joseph Paul Mikita in 2010. They were married in 1955 and they celebrated 55 years of marriage. They were able to enjoy travelling, friendships and visiting their children and grandchildren in their retirement years. Jas will always be remembered by her gift of conversation, her Italian cooking and baking, and her love for family and friends.

 

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her three brothers, Daniel Chechele, Paul Chechele and Robert Chechele.

 

Surviving are her daughter, Karen, Camp Hill, Pa; Joseph and his wife Audrey; and their children, Caroline and Allie, Plano, Tx; Michael and his wife Kristen, and their children, Kayli and Matthew of York, Pa., nieces and nephews.

 

The family will receive friends and relatives on Friday, January 10, 2025, from 4pm-6pm in Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, 251 William Street, Pittston and on Saturday, January 11, 2025, from 12pm to 1pm in Corpus Christi Parish, 605 Luzerne Avenue, West Pittston.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 1pm. Private Interment, Mount Olivet Cemetery.

 

 In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Immaculate Conception Church, Corpus Christi Parish; West Pittston, Pa in memory of Jasmine Mikita.

Karen - I am so sorry to learn of your mother's passing. I have such fond memories of her at your basketball games and in the office at Wyoming Area. Please know you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers during this most difficult time.
