John Alfano “Pop”, 87 of Pittston passed away November 16th, 2024. Born March 27th, 1937 in Hop Bottom, to the late Philomena “Fanny” DeRiggi Alfano and the late Vincenzo “Jimmy” Alfano.
John was educated in the Scranton Schools. John was a retired iron worker and member of Iron Workers local 404 formerly 489.
John enjoyed spending time with family and sharing great stories of “when pop was a little boy”. He was an avid Penn State and New York Yankees fan. John was very proud of his grandchildren and enjoyed attending many of their events over the years. John enjoyed traveling with friends to Wildwood, NJ for the Fabulous 50’s weekend, New York City, & sporting events, just to name a few. He enjoyed dancing and listening to live music. Italian restaurants were always at the top of his list to visit and critique. He could often be found on his front porch talking with the neighbors.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by wife Patricia Hadley Alfano; sister Mary Gilbert; and brother Anthony Alfano.
Surviving is his daughter Kelly Alfano (Rafael Martinez), son John Alfano; grandson Robert Timek (Jill), granddaughters Sarah Robinson, Aleni and Tillie Alfano; Companion Marie Maddi, best friend Charlette Maddi, his favorite fur buddy Bronx and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. James Tricarico and Kara Leveandoski, PA-C for their care and compassion.
The family will receive friends and relatives Wednesday November 20, 2024 from 4-6:30pm at Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC 251 William Street, Pittston, a blessing service will follow at 6:30pm. Private interment.
