John W. (Jack) Cosgrove, 89, of Pittston Township, passed away Sunday, June 22, 2025 in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.

Born in Pittston Township on February 2, 1936, he was the son of the late George P. and Elizabeth Healey Cosgrove.
He was a graduate of Pittston Central Catholic High School. He was a proud U.S. Navy veteran, having served in the Korean War. He was stationed on several ships, but his favorite was the USS Wisconsin.
He retired from Harper and Row Publishing Company, Dunmore and from the Luzerne County Voter Registration Services.
He was a 4th degree Assembly 948 Knight of Columbus, John F. Kennedy Council 372, Pittston. He was also a member of the Greater Pittston Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick; a member of the Planning Commission for Pittston Township for over 20 years; a lifelong member of St. John the Evangelist Church; and a member of the American Legion, Post 770, Trumansburg, NY.
Jack was an avid football fan, watching any game he could find on television, especially Notre Dame and the Green Bay Packers (shareholder).
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mary M. Cosgrove on February 13, 2015. They were married for fifty years. Also preceding him in death, brothers, George, Richard (Dick), James and Paul Cosgrove and sister, Nancy Long.
He is survived by his daughters, Mary Theresa and James T. Rooney, Pittston; Dr. Kathleen and Douglas Clark, Kennett Square, PA; Jacqueline (Jacqui) and Wayne Durling, Trumansburg, NY; and Margaret (Peggy) and Michael Chernouskas, Pittston; grandchildren, Sean and Brittany Rooney, Dallas; Katherine (Katie) Rooney and fiancé Mark Strzelecki, Pittston; Mary Catherine Clark and fiancé Willie Blevins, Albuquerque, NM; Holly Clark, Pensacola, FL; Emily Clark, Kennett Square, PA; Meghan and Derek Brown, Sterling, VA; Daniel Durling, Genoa, NY; Erin Durling, Trumansburg, NY; Abigail Chernouskas, Pittston and Kaitlin Chernouskas, Pittston; great-grandchildren, Isla and Shay Rooney and Jameson Brown; sister, Elizabeth Ann Cosgrove, Pittston Township; sisters-in-law, Jean Anne Linskey, Pittston and Nancy Dombroski and husband Robert, Dunellen, NJ.
The family will receive friends and relatives Friday, June 27, 2025, from 5pm-7pm in Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, 251 William Street, Pittston.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at 9am in St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 William Street, Pittston. Those attending are asked to go directly to the church. Private interment at parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Greater Pittston Santa Squad, 11 Searle St., Pittston, PA 18640.
