Joseph W. Bone, Sr.

Joseph W. Bone, Sr., 79, of Exeter, passed away Saturday morning, December 25, 2021. Born in Pittston on June 12, 1942, he was the son of the late Frank and Irene Griglock Bone.

Joseph was a graduate of Jenkins Township High School. Prior to retirement, he had worked as an industrial maintenance technician. In his free time, he loved to hunt, fish, tend to his gardens, and tinker with his antique automobiles.


He was an active member of St. Cecelia’s Church and the Parish of St. Barbara, where he sang in the choir, and a member of the Exeter Lions Club for many years.


Surviving are his children, Joseph W. Bone, Jr. and his wife Mary Margaret Bone, Jenkins Township; David Bone, Philadelphia; and Justine Garza, Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Emilio and Antonio Garza; Joseph, Jason and his wife Lexie; Jordan and Jonathon Bone; brothers, James, Exeter; and Frank, Maryland; sisters, Marie Strellish and her husband Albert, Wyoming; Jeanette Smith, Exeter; and Irene Alfano, West Pittston.


The family will receive friends and relatives Wednesday, December 29, 2021, from 4pm-7pm in Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, 251 William Street, Pittston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, December 30, 2021, at 10:00am in St. Cecelia Parish, 1700 Wyoming Avenue, Exeter. Those attending are asked to go directly to the church. Interment, St. John the Evangelist Cemetery, Pittston. In honor of Joseph’s distinct preference for open collars at formal gatherings, ties are optional for all services.
