Born May 31, 1935, Mary Ellen was the beloved daughter of the late James Murphy and Madeline Dougher Murphy. She graduated from the former Hughestown High School before pursuing her calling in nursing at the Pittston Hospital School of Nursing. Together, Mary Ellen and Leo devoted countless hours to their community as founding volunteers of the Pittston Township Little League. Mary Ellen also played an active role in the organization's Ladies Auxiliary, helping raise funds to support its programs and ensure opportunities for local youth. Her love of baseball extended well beyond the ballfield as she remained a devoted Philadelphia Phillies fan throughout her life. In the fall, she could often be found cheering on Penn State football, rarely missing a Saturday game and celebrating every Nittany Lions victory with enthusiasm.
Mary Ellen dedicated much of her life to caring for others, providing private care, comfort, and steadfast companionship to family members, friends, and neighbors during times of need.
