Michael Joseph Fino, 83, of West Pittston, died peacefully, Friday, September 9, 2022, at Geisinger Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre.
Born in Pittston, son of the late Pasquale John and Maria Assunta (Assumpta) Manganiello Fino. He graduated from St. John the Evangelist High School, Pittston, he proudly served in the United States Navy from 1956-1962 and was a graduate of Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science (now Philadelphia College of Sciences) and was a member of American Legion Post 542 Jeffrey DePrimo. Following Pharmacy School, Michael, affectionately known as “Mike” by his devoted customers, ran Fino’s Pharmacy, 32 N. Main Street, Pittston with his sister Mary Anne. He especially enjoyed the years he spent working alongside his nephew, Vincent John (Jackie) Peck. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Anne Fino and grandson, Patrick Wolak, his sister, Mary Anne Fino Anzalone, his brother, Dominic Pasquale Fino and his wife, Ruth Wierbowski Fino, his son-in-law and dear friend, Andrew Ewonishon and his “Gumba,” Charlie Alfano.
Michael was a kind and selfless husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather. Together with his wife of 61 years, the former Judith Louise Longshaw of Fall River Massachusetts, they raised five daughters. He was a devoted Pharmacist who spent many holidays running back to the pharmacy to see to his patrons needs. He enjoyed the years he served his community in this capacity. Michael was a kind and generous soul who believed that the most meaningful giving, was that given anonymously and tried to instill this in his children.
Michael is survived by his wife, daughers; Alice Louise Fino-Ewonishon, Mary Assumpta (Mary Sue) Fino-Szumski and her husband Conrad, Marsha Joan Fino-Lobo and her husband Ronald, Mary Patricia (Trish) Belles and her husband Roger. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Jonathan Gilpin and his wife, Tanya, Michael Wolak, Christina Fritz and her husband Eric, Joseph Kolmansperger and wife Sara, Adam Lobo, Karol Szumski, Alexandra Szumski, Lauren Lobo, step-grandchildren Keith Ewonishon, Jonathan Ewonishon, and his wife Kara and 10 great-grandchildren who he adored. He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Raymond Longshaw Jr. and his wife, Sharon and sister-in-law, Marsha Gauthier and her husband, Richard (Charlie) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Michael enjoyed many beach vacations over the years with his family. His grand doggie, Shiloh, was truly his best furry friend and he enjoyed frequent visits from his grand doggie, Jenny.
The family will receive friends and relatives Thursday, September 15, 2022, from 4pm-8pm in Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, 251 William Street, Pittston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, September 16, 2022, at 11:00am in Corpus Christi Parish, West Pittston. Those attending are asked to go directly to the church Friday morning. Interment will follow in West Pittston Cemetery.
