Rev. Robert F. Sauers, 95, of Plains Township and formerly of Hughestown, passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at home.
Born in West Hazleton on October 20, 1926, he was the son of the late Harry and Florence (Dolan) Sauers.
Rev. Sauers was a graduate of West Hazleton High School, Muhlenberg College, class of 1951, and Philadelphia Seminary, class of 1954. He had served in the US Navy during World War II.
Rev. Sauers was ordained in 1954. His first call was at St. Stephens Lutheran Church, Wilmington, Delaware where he served two years, he then became pastor of St. Peters Lutheran Church in Hughestown where he served 36 and ½ years. He retired from St. Peters in 1992. After retirement from St. Peters, he served at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Wilkes-Barre for 11 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Thelma (Sally) Long Sauers in 2015; brothers, William, Lester, Donald, Norman and Harry Sauers; and son-in-law, Alfred Getson.
Surviving are his children, Robert Sauers and his wife, Linda, Avoca, Sharon Pane and her husband Fred, North Carolina, Linda Getson, State College, Robin Balent and her husband Joe, North Carolina, and Leslie Sauers, Plains, grandchildren, Rev. Robert Sauers III, Rev. Scott Sauers, Ashley Charles, Brett Sauers, Joelle Pane, Annaliese Pane, Sara Hricko, Charlotte Getson, Zachary Balent, Austin Balent, and Nathan Sauers, 13 great-grandchildren, and brother, Marvin Sauers, Sugarloaf.
The family will receive friends and relatives Sunday, February 13, 2022, from 2pm-5pm in Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, 251 William Street, Pittston and on Monday, February 14, 2022, in St. Peters Lutheran Church, 100 Rock Street, Hughestown from 9am until time of service.
Religious services will begin at 10:30am.Interment, Hughestown cemetery. The family would like to thank Dr. Mauer Biscotti and the Hospice of the Sacred Heart. In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church or the Hospice of the Sacred Heart.

So very sorry to see the passing of Rev. Sauers, he was a true gentleman and servant to the Lord. He was always ready with an inspirational comment to anyone would listen. I always loved running into him and listening to his jokes and words of wisdom. My sincere condolences to his family.
